July’s Beauty Must Have: Benetint

A healthy, rosy glow can be hard to fake, most blushers offer a dull, lacklustre too pink appearance that if used incorrectly age you rather than make you look young and fresh faced.

Benetint by benefit is a cheek stain that helps you achieve  a lovely, natural flushed cheek. The red liquid can look a little scary in the bottle but a tiny amount dabbed onto skin with the applicator brush then blended with fingers goes a long way. It is quite runny so you really do only need a dab and it lasts all day!

This really is a must have part of my beauty routine.

June’s Beauty Must Have: Bobbi Brown

I’m not one for wearing foundation, I have incredibly sensitive skin and the feeling of a layer of foundation coating my skin is not one I enjoy however this is no longer an issue with the Bobby Brown foundation stick.

It comes in a variety of shades to suit all skin tones and it blends in seamlessly.

The stick is a good size and a little goes a long way. It’s incredibly light and  gives skin a flawless look that lasts all day. This is hands down the most comfortable product I have ever put on my skin and a must have edition to any make up bag.

New year, new beauty buys

With a new year often comes resolutions and whilst I tend not to be too specific I do find myself each year saying this is the year I will stick to a beauty regime, drink water, eat healthily, exersize lots etc etc and whilst most of them I am pretty good with- give or take a few hiccups the beauty part is where I tend to be quite flippant.

Now I have very sensitive skin and I am allergic to a few chemicals frequently used in lotions and potions so I have to be very careful with what I use and I find it is best if I do mix up my routine a bit so I have taken a look at a selection of products to kick start the new year with and these are my new favs.

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream perfect amount of moisture to give my skin a glow before applying make up, Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Lip Protectant for chapped lips,  Clinique Facial Soap gives a refreshing cleanse in the morning, Lucas Paw Paw  great for on the spot problems and Palmer’s Coconut Oil Body Oil as skin still needs to be loved in the winter.

Alternative advents- beauty treats at Christmas

Yes, yes it’s a bit late for advent calendars but this is benefits 12 days of gorgeous- an alternative advent and only for 12 days.

My lovely husband gave me this at the weekend so I could open one each day for the final 12 day countdown until Christmas!

I love Christmas and I know for years the hubby has been attempting to buy me a beauty calendar but has had no luck- these beauties sell out in no time you have to be quick!

Packed with 12 benefit classic minis this is a great addition to any benefit collection. It’s also a brilliant way to try out products before buying the full size version and the minis are perfect for travel. A big win in my book.

I am a huge fan of benefit cosmetics, the fun, bright branding and great quality make up is a winning combination.

The 12 days of gorgeous plays an alternative tune when you open the box that I will be singing all the way through till the new year.

Looking forward to opening them all!

And a paparazzi in a pear tree…

I have a love hate relationship with waxing. I love the results, hate the thought of it.

There is nothing worse than having to put up with unwanted hair whilst waiting for your next appointment but silky soft fuzz free skin for a few weeks is well worth it. Hair grows back slower and much thinner with waxing so over time it gets easier and easier- if you stick with it.

If your already an advocate of waxing the next decision is hot wax or strip wax. I have super sensitive skin and often get bruised or end up with a red rash for the first day after a wax but never with hot wax. It’s more expensive than strip and takes longer but the results are way better and it’s not nearly as painful.

My beautician’s use Lycon hot wax which can remove hairs as short as 1mm- saving time during that horrid grow back stage although for best results between 5-10mm is recommended.

The pink wax is spread over the hair and you then have to wait for the wax to set and go hard. A quick flick and then off it comes in one quick pull. No need to keep going over the same patch.

Beauticians must be specially trained to use hot wax but once you find an awesome beauty therapist you won’t look back.

Dragon’s Blood Eye Mask

With the arrival of winter comes the arrival of dull lacklustre skin brought on by the cold weather and central heating.

Our eyes are the windows to our soul and can make a huge difference to our general appearance.

Lack of sleep, lack of water and the elements can make my eyes and skin look less than sparkly.

I picked up some  Rodial Dragon’s Blood eye masks that say they will hydrate and tone the eye area. Winner, if they are any good.

You peel off the eye masks and place on the under eye area. They are quite large masks and I struggled to get them in place on my face- they didn’t seem to fit properly. Once in place the instructions said to leave on for 20-30 minutes…then remove and rub any residue into skin.

They certainly do hydrate, and my cheekbones feel tighter due to them slipping down my face. Not sure I can notice a difference visually in my eye area though which is what I was hoping for.

I think they deserve another shot before I disregard them completely but currently jury’s out on this one.

It’s a rare site for me not to have my nails painted. I’m totally addicted to buying nail polish and there’s nothing better than a nice shiny nail to brighten up your outfit.

I used to think that having the same nail colour on for at least two weeks would be very dull and was not particularly drawn to the idea of a gel manicure but since my wedding day when super nice nails are a must I have been converted.

I am a bit clumsy and also like to get hands on with things so I am forever breaking my nails and chipping my usual polish. With shellac my nails are so much stronger and I actually manage to grow them to a nice lady like length (before I start scratching my eyes putting contacts in).

Shellac offers super shiny colour for a flawless finish. My nails grow fast so I like to get them re done every two weeks but for perfect nails every time it’s great.
